I. Policy Statement
Onondaga Community College is an Affirmative Action employer, committed to recruiting, supporting, and fostering a diverse community of outstanding faculty, staff, and students. The College maintains a written Affirmative Action Program (AAP) that describes the College’s affirmative action policies and commitment to providing an equal opportunity to all students, employees and applicants. The College will make a distinct effort to assure that minorities, women, protected veterans and individuals with disabilities are given full consideration for employment, development and advancement within the College.
II. Reason for Policy
The College’s Affirmative Action Program reflects the College’s attitude and its intention to recruit, hire, train, promote, and transfer employees without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, creed, age, disability, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, familial status, pregnancy, predisposing genetic characteristics or carrier status*, military status (including U.S. Veteran status), domestic violence victim status, prior criminal conviction that is unrelated to the employee's job, or any other characteristic protected by law; establishes the basis for the above mentioned employment action decisions so as to further the principles of equal employment opportunity and the Onondaga Community College Principles of Community; provide equal opportunities, pursuant to Executive Order 11246 as amended by Executive Order 11375, to minority and women employees and applicants; provide equal opportunities pursuant to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 to qualified individuals with disabilities; and provide, pursuant to the Vietnam Era Veterans' Readjustment Act of 1974, as amended, equal opportunities to those who are qualified protected U.S. Veterans. The College recognizes that achieving equal treatment may require proactive measures to offset obstacles and barriers faced by the protected groups for whom we seek inclusion.

III. Applicability of the Policy
This policy applies to all Onondaga Community College community members.

Overall responsibility for directing and implementing the policy and the College’s AAP has been assigned to the Associate Vice President, Human Resources, who will evaluate the AAP on an annual basis. Employees may make requests to the Office of Human Resources to review the AAP.
