Sustainability @ Onondaga

When it began

On May 11, 2007 Dr. Sydow signed the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment. The agreement pledges Onondaga’s commitment to reduce and eventually eliminate emissions, and to accelerate the educational efforts to equip society to re-stabilize the earth’s climate.

What’s Been Done

The list is growing everyday as new efforts are being taken on. Recent initiatives have included:

  • Reusable mug discount 
  • Use of plates and cups that can be composted 
  • Compost site and compost collection stations 
  • Use of local food suppliers when possible 
  • Sustainable landscape plan
  • Carry in / carry out classrooms
  • 30% of campus electricity purchased from renewable sources
  • Less paper, more usage of electronic communication mediums
  • Development of Sustainability Curriculum
  • Sustainability related campus events
  • Campus contests and community recycling events

How to Join the Effort

If you are interested in making you experience at Onondaga a green one there are a lot of options, including:

  • Joining the Whole Earth Club
  • Participating in RecycleMania, Sustainability Day, or Earth Week 
  • Enrolling in one of Onondaga’s sustainability related degree programs
