Use these lists to help plan what items to bring when living in a residence hall.

Suggested Items to Bring

Suite Style Housing (Building B)
  • Computer: Residence Halls are wireless compatible; however, it is suggested you bring an Ethernet cable
  • Surge protector: It must say “surge protector” on the box and the device.  Fire Shield or First Alert surge protectors are the required brands. Any others will be confiscated and not returned. 
  • Mini-fridge: Five (5) cubic foot maximum 
  • Microwave oven 
    • You will only need one microwave per suite kitchen so talk to your suitemates to see who will bring a kitchen-sized microwave 
    • Microwaves for use in bedrooms, onlyapproved MicroFridge® rentals (one per bedroom) - www.mymicrofridge.com 
  • Extra-long shower curtain (two showers per suite) 
  • Shower caddy and shower shoes 
  • TV/cable wire for TV 
  • TV for suite living room: You will only need one TV for the suite living room, so talk to your suitemates to see who will want to bring the TV. 
  • Bedding for XL twin bed 
  • Dishes, pots, pans, silverware 
  • Laundry detergent/Laundry bag or basket 
  • Cleaning supplies (including vacuum cleaner) 
  • Alarm clock 
  • Toaster: Can only be used in the kitchen. You will only need one toaster per suite so talk to your suitemates to see who will bring a toaster 
  • Coffee pot: Can only be used in the kitchen and must have an automatic shut-off. You will only need one coffee pot per suite so talk to your suitemates to see who will bring this item 
  • Towels

    Traditional Style Housing (Building Shapero Hall)
    • Computer: Residence Halls are wireless compatible; however, it is suggested you bring an Ethernet cable
    • Surge protector: It must say “surge protector” on the box and the device.  Fire Shield or First Alert surge protectors are the required brands.  Any others will be confiscated and not returned. 
    • Mini-fridge: Five (5) cubic foot maximum

    • Plastic Crates or footlockers for under the bed 
    • TV/cable wire for TV

    • Alarm clock 
    • Coffee pot with automatic shut-off (one per bedroom)

    Pod Style Housing (Building A and C)
    • Computer: Residence Halls are wireless compatible; however, it is suggested you bring an Ethernet cable
    • Surge protector: It must say “surge protector” on the box and the device.  Fire Shield or First Alert surge protectors are the required brands.  Any others will be confiscated and not returned.

    Prohibited Items (All Halls) 

    Please do not bring anything on the list below. They may be confiscated and not returned to you.

    • Animals of any kind (unless an APPROVED Emotional Support Animal through the Office of Accessibility Resources)
    • Alcohol or other drugs, and any AOD paraphernalia (including hookas and e-cigarettes)
    • Hoverboards
    • Dartboards with metal tips
    • Drums, electrically amplified instruments, or DJ equipment
    • Extension cords or multi-plug outlets
    • Neon signs and any kind of string lights
    • Personal modems
    • Federal, state, college, local or other signs
    • Halogen lamps, lava lamps, torchiere lamps, octopus lamps, or other high intensity lamps
    • Firearms, weapons or other dangerous instruments (paintball guns, BB guns, paintball guns, airsoft guns, knives, archery equipment, etc.)
    • Curtains or drapes (unless flame resistant) and tapestries
    • Hot plates, quesadilla makers, toaster ovens, crock pots, sandwich makers, George Forman Grills
    • Candles, fireworks, explosives, charcoal/gas grills, oil lamps, incense, wax heater, any combustible devise etc.
    • Indoor use of any athletic equipment (dumbbells, pull up bars, free weights, etc.)
    • Air Conditioners
    • Live-cut Christmas trees and any flammable decorations 

    Notes for Decorating Your Room

    • Do not store items within 18 inches from a sprinkler head or within 2 feet from the ceiling
    • Do not move heavy furniture – submit a work order and facilities will assist with moving furniture
    • Do not hang anything on the ceiling or sprinklers
    • Do not have strings of lights on your walls or ceiling
    • You may not cover more than 50% of your door or walls as it is a fire hazard

    Notes for Move-In

    • Please have all items labeled with your name, building, and room number
    • Pick up your ID card at the LazerCard office located at Student Central in the Gordon Student Center
